BIBLICAL SUCCESS SERIES
Mechanism For Kingdom Success (Pt 1)
Text: Joshua 1:8; Deuteronomy 30:15

INTRODUCTION

Success is a familiar and popular word with people but not everyone has the benefit of enjoying it at will. However, we could have tasted in a certain measure or degree at a particular period of time in our lives. Let me paint these pictures in your mind before I proceed in the part one of this series:
1. An athlete who just finished a race event after crossing the line first,

2. A student who bagged a degree and collects his certificate during convocation,
3. An evangelist who had just harvested souls into the kingdom after a ministration in a crusade or outreach, and
4. A football team that just won a match against her opponent.

(a) Are they successful? Yes!

This means that, Success is REALISTIC! It is tangible and can be clearly seen. It is evident that it exist; sensible and appropriate; possible to achieve. I like you to make this confession with conviction right now: "I AM A SUCCESS AND AM DESTINED TO BE IT". You need to be enveloped with the power and mentality of success. You can't 'become' a success until you have first 'been' it. People pray to become successful but only few have first lived it out in their mental realm. It is not always as we think it is. It doesn't matter whether you have support from anyone or not. Just CONCEIVE it first in your mind then you will see yourself ACHIEVE it.

(b) Was their any parameter used by them for achieving it? Yes!

Success is a CHOICE! Meaning that, they decided to do something to attain their current status. An effort was definitely channelled into a perceived and relevant production process. What you don't desire, you don't deserve. You need to understand that our choices makes us at the long run. When you refuse to make a choice placed before you then you have just made a choice too. Decisions often determines destinies. Our lives are reflections of past choices and decisions made. Tomorrow also anchors on the decisions we make today.
Success is MEASURABLE! Another thing to note is that it can be evaluated. You can judge the importance, value and effect of something that have been done. It is assessable. I remembered writing Jamb some years ago. I was already in the university running a part-time program. As a result of that, I didn't remember that I bought the form until two days to the exam, thanks to someone who mentioned it in the course of gisting. I eventually got back to Lagos where I registered to write the exams. I was not just composed and prepared for it probably because I saw myself as an undergraduate already. Don't bother to ask what the result was 'cos your guess is good as mine. It was definitely average and not attractive for the school and course I chose. I learnt from that experience and faced a particular course later in my 200L. The test was not convincing so I remembered the effort I put when writing Jamb back then believing that I didn't not learn. I had to double my effort by studying with all determination to excel and guess what, I had the best score in the whole class for that course that semester. It was a sweet "A". Success is not automatic too in this kingdom but measurable based on our effort in place.
Success is ATTAINABLE! We can achieve it if necessary preparations are put in place. Like I said earlier, success is not automatic. When opportunity meets with preparation then success becomes possible and sweet.

(c) Is it an end in itself? No!
Success is a JOURNEY and not a DESTINATION! Achieving success is not a onetime event but a continuous process inasmuch as we desire to be relevant among our peers within our society. It is a journey that must be threaded. It is essential to be in the right direction in order not to end up as a casualty. This is because you can't journey in the wrong direction and arrive at your destination. It won't work that way. To say the truth, speed is needless when you are in the wrong direction. When you are not experiencing success the way you want in your endeavours then you need to run a check on the kind of steps you might have taken whether it was wrong or right. We are always on the move in life and this happens through the STEPS we take [Proverbs 16:9; Jeremiah 10:23]. It can either be in the right direction (positive) or in the wrong direction (negative). Its all about continuity but right direction, steps, turn and decision.

POWER OF INFLUENCE

THE POWER OF INFLUENCE An individual begins to develop his or her leadership abilities when he or she starts to influence others towards a particular direction. The reason why you take the lead when you influence others is basically because we are dealing with humans. Other things such as animals, money and properties can only be managed and controlled before you can generate value from them or multiply their usefulness but for humans, it is a different case totally. We actually don’t manage people but lead them. There is a clear distinction between leading and managing. ‘To lead’ simply means to influence. It is to influence others towards the effective and efficient utilization of resources for the maximum productivity of the individual and ultimately the society. ‘To manage’ is to create a process of achieving certain objectives clearly set out through planning, organizing, controlling and directing of human resources. These two concepts are both important in any set...
